“Jim Phelps, MS, CSCS, a nationally renowned strength coach, is definitely one of Louisiana’s premier strength training specialists. He is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a Master of Science in Exercise Science. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), USA Weightlifting Certified Club Coach, author of ‘Feed the Machine: A No Nonsense Diet Susceptible to Increasing Size and Strength’ in the February 2008 issue of Pose Down Muscle & Figure Magazine, American Powerlifting Association Louisiana State Chairman and Referee, as well as owner of Pinnacle Performance Physique and Strength Sport Enterprises, Inc.
With over 10 years of proven experience, career highlights include coaching two consecutive collegiate national powerlifting championships for Louisiana Tech University in 2000 and 2001, and training a number of world-class athletes for competition across the globe. In 2002, he spoke adamantly about strength training and supplementation concerns in athletics at the Annual Conference for the Mississippi Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
He is a competitive powerlifter with particular interest in drug free bench press competition. Since 2007, he has held the Louisiana State Bench Press Record with a 505-lb attempt at a mere 220-lb bodyweight. He is also winner of the 2008 Louisiana’s Strongest Man Competition in the Lightweight (<231 lbs) Division.
